Erasmus+ Project

Youth seeds for a Just transition

Project

The cooperation partnership for youth Erasmus+ “Youth Seeds for a Just Transition” aims to strengthen democratic and civic participation among young people in the ecological and social transition. Building on a transnational collaboration between 8 partners from the European Union and a neighbouring country (Georgia), the project seeks to involve young people in decision-making processes, equip them with key skills for a just transition, and promote innovative solutions co-designed with experts and local decision-makers. Through workshops, digital training, participatory events, and the development of inclusive service prototypes, this project raises awareness among young people and their communities about sustainability, equality, and social justice. At the same time, it enhances the capacity of youth organisations and municipalities to work together towards a fairer and more resilient future.

Solidarity and collective progress

Objectives

“Youth Seeds for a Just Transition” aims, at a transnational level, to :

  • help strengthen democratic processes and the representation of young people in decision-making,
  • increase information and awareness on the inclusive, transparent and active participation of young people in a fair and equitable transition,
  • strengthen the capacity of youth organisations and municipalities/local authorities in the target countries

Just Transition

A just transition for all towards an environmentally sustainable economy … needs to be well managed and contribute to the goals of decent work for all, social inclusion and the eradication of poverty” (Guidelines for a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all” International Labor Organization, 2016).

What is “just transition”?

The concept of “just transition” has been around since the 1980s, when it was used in a movement by US trade unions to protect workers affected by new water and air pollution regulations. In recent years, the concept has gained traction with reference to meeting climate goals by ensuring the whole of society – all communities, all workers, all social groups – are brought along in the pivot to a net-zero future.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) defines it this way: “Greening the economy in a way that is as fair and inclusive as possible to everyone concerned, creating decent work opportunities and leaving no one behind.”
